The eating disorder charity Beat suggest that approximately 1.25million people in the UK are suffering from some form of eating disorder. The nature of Sport and the discipline it requires often attracts those who are known to have quite obsessive personalities and traits around disordered eating are often very similar. Awareness around RED-S has grown in recent years and has been helped, to an extent, by some former elite athletes who have been brave enough to share their stories. There are also specific websites dedicated to the subject such as The Red-S project, put together by former British Athlete Pippa Woolven.

In my experience of working with young athletes and the charity ‘Beat (Eating Disorders)’ , I have found that for many people, in particular younger people, it can be quite challenging to find any medical support unless you are formally diagnosed with a specific eating disorder. If people are fortunate enough to get treatment, it is often more focussed on the practical aspect of re-feeding and less on the psychological thought processes which have contributed to this person being in the situation they are in.
Richard is a qualified coach and Master Practitioner in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and has a focus on the psychological thought processes that are linked to Disordered eating and Red-S. NLP Coaching is a process of questioning to establish thought processes and patterns and the practical application of strategies which allow someone to challenge their thinking and re-frame their thoughts for a better, longer term outcome.
An initial meeting will aim to find out more about the person and a little more about what is going on for them in regard to their relationship with food and their related thought processes. A further session with more detailed questions would follow to establish patterns of thought and likely areas of support and potential intervention. Following this session, a discussion with the person would take place to talk in more detail about the likely way forward and the suggested treatment pathway.
The initial meeting is £45.
This cost will be taken off the final price if a minimum of three further sessions are booked. Sessions will vary in length according to the nature of the intervention but would generally be priced around £65 per hour and £90 for 90 minutes. Further discounts may be available when multiple sessions are booked and paid for in advance.
